Captain America: Civil War

Sorry, wrong movie =/

We have been waiting for this for a long time haven't we? To be honest I was dreadful first after I heard that they were going to make Civil War into a movie because Age of Ultron...

Civil War is an amazing comic with an amazing story and as it is so easy to turn it into an amazing movie it is also very, very easy to fuck it up. Thank got in the hands of more than competent hands of the Russo Brothers, it is safe so say that Captain America: Civil War is my favourite MCU movie so far.

Now, Captain America is far from being my favourite Avenger and I was extra worried of Civil War becoming a Captain America movie rather than making it like an Avengers movie or something. Just felt too specific and I wasn't sure what they were going to do with it. However, not only giving equal and enough focus to every and each character, they even made Cap into a somewhat lovable persona in my eyes.

Don't get me wrong I'm team Iron Man forever! (In the movie; in the comics team Cap was more appealing to me. They've got the Punisher for God's sake!) But knowing the origin of the story, it's easy to say that they did justice to both sides ideology and point of view.

Without giving out too many spoilers I want to talk about a few things that I am so excited about in the story. First of all is of course our brand new Spider-Man.

Oh had I have my doubts!

I did get extremely excited, almost at the edge of having a heart attack, just like millions when Spiderman made his debut in the second trailer? third? There were just so many of them, I lost count. But it was really great. Yet, right after his big debut a huge worry started to haunt us: Trailers are made to make the movies look good. So what if that "Hi everyone!" was the only exciting moment we will get from our itty-bitty Spider-Man?

Thankfully, Tom Holland made an amazing Spider-Man (did you see what I did there?). I understand there is some controversy on Holland being too young comparing to the rest of the cast. But Spider-Man is supposed to be young. He is supposed to be in college age. He is supposed to be significantly younger than rest of the mighty Avengers. So SHUT UP! Ehmm. Sorry.

Another brand new addition to the team was the Black Panther. Chadwick Boseman gained my approval as the king of Wakanda. Wasn't he the most badass cat you've ever seen?

Nonetheless I have to say that I'm still a little upset him being separated from his lovely wife. (For those of you don't know the origin of T'Challa a.k.a. the Black Panther, he is married to the X-Men's very own white haired queen, Storm). Let's hope for the better days with no copyright restrictions, separating the people in love.

Speaking of love... If you've seen the movie you may have noticed a little thingy going on between Scarlet Witch and Vision. In the comics they are married; they were married... It's complicated. But at least both of their rights belong to the same company right? So that's good.

To tell the truth, despite hating the guts out of Captain America: The First Avenger, I really, really liked the Winter Soldier and I would like to give the credit to the Russo Brothers. Of course they did win my heart years ago with Community, and seeing with both of these Cap movies that it is not a coincidence.

I can say with my mind in peace, that this is the best Marvel Cinematic Universe movie I have seen so far.

Anthony and Joe Russo, I raise my glass and tip my hat to you sirs. We expect great things from you with the upcoming Avengers movies.

(By the way did you know that the next Avengers movies are going to have a change of name and be something different than Infinity Wars? Now you do!)

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Everybody has an opinion good or bad, mostly bad, on the highly anticipated, greatly overestimated movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. So do I! Then let's begin... Fair warning beforehand: if you haven't seen the movie, this entry involves spoilers! (May also involve some swear words, I would like to apologise but this movie deserves it!)

Finally I got to see that epic failure of a movie everyone is talking about and boy was it bad! I had this feeling for months that it was going to be bad and to be honest the casting of Ben Affleck did have a major effect on this feeling, but to my surprise I found Affleck's performance pretty satisfying in the majority of the movie.

I have never had a problem with Henry Cavill. I am not the biggest Superman fan there is but Cavill sure turned the character into a much lovable hero I must day. His performance in Man of Steel was really good and he kept up the good work in this one too.

Since we started from the cast let's continue with Gal Gadot before we move on to the atrocities of the screenplay. Honestly, I couldn't have imagined a better casting for the wondrous Wonder Woman. (See what I did there?)

However, the great performance and an amazing character was wasted with so little screen time. Yeah yeah, Wonder Woman will get it's own movie and there will be Justice League blah blah... Still, I think that they either should have given her a bit more focus or should have excluded her entirely for this one.

The over-crowdedness of the storylines probably is the thing that messed up everyones opinion of this movie in the first place. The single movie which is approximately of a 2 and a half hours length involves 5 different storylines that deserve to have their own individual screen play about themselves.

At the end of the movie Man of Steel we were given the hints of people's potential for fearing Superman's power. The storyline of people versus Superman is big enough to make a movie but okay so dear Snyder decided to add Batman into the mix. Batman siding with the people against Superman a whole other storyline that should have been handled on its own. But it's not enough. Because there is also Lex Luthor to fuck the things up. You apprehended Luthor? Then here is BAM! here's Doomsday!

And Zack Snyder wanted to add the Joker and the Riddler in this movie too! It was almost going to be the entire DC universe under 3 hours.

The whole movie just jumps from vine to vine swinging between major plot points without doing justice to any of it.

Ever since his appearance in the trailers there has been huge controversy on Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. I personally like new approaches to old characters; and I definitely enjoyed Jesse Eisenberg performance. What was problematic to me in the character that the character was so manic that at moments I felt like I wasn't watching Lex Luthor but I was watching the Joker. The laugh, the mimics and gestures... It was a good performance but I though it was a bit too much for Luthor.

There were a lot of things that were problematic in the movie. First of all, there were many points that seemed important during the movie that are left unexplained. For example, after Batman wakes up from his second? dream (this movie by the way had more dreams in it than inception) a mysterious person comes through the screen rambling things about Louise Lane and am I too soon, I'm too soon... Thanks to my comic book fan boyfriend I learnt that was the Flash. Despite being very familiar with the character and his abilities, I wouldn't have guessed it on my own in a million years.

And why the hell Batman wears a coat on his bat suit? Just why?!

Two of the milestones in the movie that disturbed me most firstly was of course (as everybody has been complaining about) is the point the dispute between Batman and Superman was resolved. I mean if only Superman said the name Martha in the beginning of the movie, the city would be saved from a lot of destruction. Plus I don't get it; Lex Luthor knows that Superman is Clark Kent but "the worlds greatest detective" Batman doesn't? It's just plain stupid.

Second of all, in the second part of the movie we see Diana Prince fleeing from every scene that has a conflict in. Towards the very end we see her basically running from the city, until she sees the electric waves, or whatever they were, and she says "oh well, I have been running but what the heck, maybe I should go and check it out."

Also if you didn't already know that Diana Prince is the Wonder Woman, you can't figure it out just by watching the movie. Because her name is not mentioned once in the entire movie. Not once!

This has been a loooooong entry. But finally I have to say this: Jason Momoa as Aquaman is most likely the best casting I have ever seen. A character that is this humiliated can only be dignified this brilliantly. I can say that despite having this low opinion of this movie, I am looking forward to the Justice League; mainly to see Aquaman =))

Maybe not let Zack Snyder direct the next one? Pretty please?

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Recently I don't get much time to spend on watching movies and I keep disappoint myself with the movies I choose to when I get the time.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't so bad. Just... I haven't seen Batman v. Superman yet and yesterday I sat down to watch this. (Not that I hear good things about Batman v. Superman.)

Quick acknowledgement: I'm a Whovian, my favorite doctor is 11th (Matt Smith), Matt Smith is dating Lily James in real life, and as the duty of a fangirl I dislike her.

To be honest before seeing the movie I really didn't know what to expect. I mean the cast looks amazing but the premise... As a Jane Austen fan and a fan of the creepy stuff, I wasn't sure if this was the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. Because sometimes no matter how good two things are separately they don't mix well together. But then again sometimes we try things and get the sweet sour sauce.

Just let me say this movie was no sweet sour sauce. As I said before, I can't necessarily say that it's bad. But it wasn't good either.

I confess long before the movie was made I thought of reading the book but not being the biggest book worm it is hard for me to steer from Neil Gaiman. But given the premise of the book, I kinda knew what to expect and the casting was pretty satisfying towards my expectations.

No matter how much I oppose being a fan of Lily James, I have to admit she was really good in her role of Elizabeth. Yes she's pretty, yes she's a good actor; fine I'm over it. Whatever.

I was very... very surprised to find Matt Smith in the role of Mr. Collins (Sorry Parson Collins). And even though I am very confident of his talent I wasn't sure if it was the right choice. But it was. It really, really was. I have seen my fair share of Pride and Prejudice adaptations and this was the first time I actually liked Collins. I can really say that Matt steals the show from every other character. Good job Smith!

Lena Heady, oh God that was the perfect choice for Lady Catherine de Bourgh. But Charles Dance, in my opinion was a wasted talent as Mr. Bennett. Too passive of a character for such a treasure.

I can't say that I am satisfied with the entire cast though. Sam Riley kinda disappointed me. I really liked his performance in Maleficent so I didn't doubt that he wasn't going to be able to carry the role of Mr. Darcy. I should have. The whole movie was like Sam Riley's audition for Batman. I can easily say that the majority of the points lost  of this movie (acting wise) is because of Colonel Darcy.

Now, my copy of the movie was not brilliant so the colors were a bit confusing and when I get confused I absolutely can't focus on the cinematography. But I'm guessing that if you watch Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, you don't watch it because you expect it to be a piece of cinematic art.

So let's  talk about the screenplay. First of all I wasn't expecting for the story line to be this similar to the original. At least for the first half. In the beginning this caused a bit of a confusion in me. The evolution of Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship has always been the best part of the story and in the movie it was depicted in the worst way possible. One second they hate each other and the second they are totally in love. That's not how it goes. But of course this movie is not supposed to be a love story as it originally is; in fact I have no idea what genre it fits into.

Visually I believe it lives up to the grotesqueness of the zombie apocalypse. This statement is also a warning to you if you have a sensitive stomach. Just because it is combined with a classic love story doesn't mean that they went short on displaying the savageness. Blood, brain eating and rotten flesh (lots of gross rotten flesh) is a common sight throughout the movie. If you don't like seeing your characters eating other characters, you have been warned.

In a nutshell, I can say that this movie is watchable if you don't have great expectations. If you don't mind the blood and not looking for a great screenplay also if you think Batman sounds cool, this is the movie for you.

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards

Oh Hollywood, you never fail to make me laugh...

It's the awards season again!!! Yay!

We began our journey on red carpet with The Golden Globes on January 10th with a loss of belief in Hollywood's judgement as that loss keeps increasing in size every and each year.

First of all I have to say this: Ricky Gervais, I love you and I respect you. An award show that was so... whatever that was, could only be managed that well. Even though I question  why he would return to host such a disgrace for the 4th time knowing that all of the things he makes fun of in his opening speech are not only jokes but ridiculous and harsh facts, I believe he just returns to host every time just to be ironic.

Let's start slow. Even though The Golden Globes has it's integrity quite shaken in my eyes, I am very happy that the success of Mozart In The Jungle had been acknowledged. Mozart In The Jungle received 2 Golden Globes; one for a much deserved Best Television Series in Comedy or Musical category and one for Best Performance by an Actor in a TelevisionSeries in Comedy or Musical with the amazing Gael Garcia Bernal. Let's move on to our second highlight of the night I'm pretty sure if you have internet and if you know how to use it properly, you have seen this right here at least a hundred times by now.

But how cute Lady Gaga's speech was! She truly is a humble soul. 

Following the "Leonardo DiCaprio never won an Oscar" craze people were overly excited over him getting a Golden Globe, welcoming it with a "Finally!". What these people apparently don't know that this is Leo's 3rd Golden Globe and a Golden Globe is not an Oscar. So there you go. 

Moving on... I am a musician and songwriter. Why do I tell you this? Because this makes me extra sensitive in the best original song/best original score categories. I am very satisfied with the win of Ennio Morricone in the best original score with The Hateful Eight. I always admire a Tarantino movie with its every aspect; but the score in this one was especially exceptional. 

As I was waiting for the announcement for the best original song, I was getting ready to bitch about it because I seriously thought that The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was going to fuck that up. To my surprise the only acceptable nominee got the award. So let's thank whoever is responsible for the talent of Sam Smith and move on.

Getting Mel Gibson to introduce Mad Max: Fury Road... Good move. Cliche but good move.

And as the last but not least, well maybe the least, Best Motion Picture in Comedy or Musical. 

So let's break it down shall we? Start with the nominees... The Big Short: that's nice, good, okay. Joy: okay, half way drama half way comedy, I like those. Spy: Melissa McCarthy is one of my favourite comedians, that's great. Trainwreck: I absolutely adore Amy Schumer and her comedy really speaks to me. Aaaandd The Martian: ....What?

And guess who won? The biggest musical comedic gift the motion picture history has given us: The Martian! 

So I wonder, what really happened there? I assumed there really was a mistake when they even nominated The Martian as a comedy/musical, but I guess it was all planned? 

This is how I imagine it went:

THFPJ1: Hey! Have you seen the movie The Martian? That was so good! We should totally give it an award.

THFPJ2: Yes but people would think we're favouring it if we pick it over these other much better dramas.

THFPJ1: Oh I know! Let's put it in another category and give it the award in there. 

THFPJ2: Okay, but we have only two categories: drama and comedy.

THFPJ1: Then we'll put it in the comedy category. We'll add comedy to it's genre on its IMdB page; no one will notice.

THFPJ2: Let's do it!

And kids, this is the story of how The Martian became a comedy.

But look at that face:

How could they deny him a globe?

Let's Talk About Depression

Today I want to talk about something different. You may say that this doesn't concern you and I would understand. But if you have anyone, who may be going through something similar to this, it might really help to read. They may not be able to explain how they feel. I know I wasn't able to for a long time...

I've been suffering from major depressive disorder and panic attacks for almost 2 years, and I'm under medication treatment for the past year. I've had previous cases of panic attack since I was little but never understood what they really were and nobody really thought it was anything important.

I'd like to point out the common misconceptions and mistakes that I had the first hand experience with. 

The worst one is almost always. 

"There are people who have it worse. Pick yourself up.":

Depression is a medical condition, a mental illness. The reason I'm suffering from this condition is that my brain lacks a chemical called serotonin. Which is why I take medication, to make up for it. Not because I'm trying to numb the pain.

The next one is what I get from most of my friends.

"I'm depressed too.":

As I said, depression is a medical condition. Of course everyone has their ups and downs and they get sad. But that doesn't necessarily mean that you are suffering from depression. Another thing is that I am not very comfortable opening up about it. So when you undermine the message I'm trying to deliver, you are doing a lot more damage than you can imagine.

"I didn't want to tell you because you already have your own things(!)":

This is a continuous thing and it's going to take a while. I'm trying to live my life as normal as it can be. I'm your friend and I'm going to be there for you when you need me to. Don't leave me out of your life. In fact involve me in it. Tell me things. I will be happy when you are happy and when you're sad I will not collapse in empathy I will do my best to help you out.

 

This comes from my parents still 

"Don't tell anyone that you're taking medication!"

I'm not a drug addict. I have a condition and I'm trying to cure it. I shouldn't have any reason to hide it just like you don't hide it when you have the flu. It is a part of me but it doesn't define me. Don't make me feel ashamed of what I have. Don't look at me like I'm a hopeless case. If you would still like me if I had allergies, like me the way I am right now. 

The last one is the most dangerous one

"I don't think that you should take these pills.":

I really do need my medication. Don't force me not to take them, or don't make me feel bad about it. I'm just trying to get better; just like you want me to. And this is the only way to do it. As a matter of fact, not taking my medication is not only going to stop my improvement but also will possibly make me worse. It is a deal about my brain chemistry. 

I'm in the 13th month of my treatment process and I'm happy to say that I don't cry every day anymore. I don't see nightmares every night. Be happy for me :)

I decided just to write about the outer side of the situation because I still don't feel comfortable sharing what is actually going on in my head. Maybe I'll write about it too one day. 

It is not always going to be like this. This doesn't last forever. I know I'll be fine; and you should know it too.

All I need... all we need is a little more support.

Pretty Little Liars: Is it ever going to end?

This review is about the season 6 finale and yes, of course there are spoilers!

So, I was one of the lucky ones who survived to see who A turned out to be before the judgement day; and I have to admit that despite of all that nonsense they went through to stretch the show into 6 season, I say they cleaned up pretty well.

CeCe is Charles, and a transsexual, and a DiLaurentis, and was missing from the story for quite some time.

I can't say that I was so very surprised. CeCe was always a suspect but they diverted our attention from her firstly by ignoring her existence for a whole season and secondly being sure that A was a dude. Plot Twist! CeCe used to be a guy!

So we heard the whole story from her point of view with a lot of plot holes but stretching a show for that long I'll take it.

What I'm not fine with is CeCe a.k.a. Charles a.k.a. A was sort of presented as the victim in the end. I get that she's been through some very hard time and she wanted revenge and everything but she is showed as someone who has been falsely taken as a mental patient for all these years and I say that it is impossible for someone who has is mentally stable to even dream of the things she has done.

You may say that she was driven crazy with all that life brought her but seriously, this girl has committed multiple murders, kidnapped and tortured multiple people and put some of the people she kidnapped (who she calls "her dolls") in a giant doll house.

Also her mom funded her and stuff but please, how much money can someone have to set up all that complicated surveillance and hire that many people... It just doesn't make sense.

Plus she cannot possible build that doll house herself and set all that surveillance by herself etc etc. Didn't ANYONE notice something uncanny about this girl; especially in a town which is infamous for its fucked up events that are going around? Don't you have to get a permit or something to build that giant building? Just one girl did all that and skipped the police for all those years and it was all for... Wait! What was it for? Oh right because she thought Alison's friends were happy that she died.

Aaaannddd..... To top it all, the four girls who had their lives turn into hell for years, who had multiple near death experiences, lost many friends, had families fallen apart found A reasonable? WHAT?

You know what? I've been waiting to find out who A is for so long, I really don't mind. I just want my peace. I want to see those girls go on with their lives and everything to be back to normal. But for some reason the network decided that the show must go on.

Just when we thought 'Everything is finally solved', HERE'S A TIME JUMP.

And of course since these girls are cursed and everything has to happen to them, they are in trouble again. "He"is after Alison apparently and the other girls are somehow involved in it. And it's too late; "he" is here.

I guess we will continue the series with H now.

I may endure a new anonymous person that is making the life of 5 teenage girls hell for one more season but now there are rumors of a season 8. Pleeeasseee don't! I just can't take it anymore!

Whatever.


So we have another season waiting for us around the middle of next year and I'm very sorry to day that I'm not really looking forward to it anymore.

Will I see it? Yes. Will I like it? I guess we'll see.

Adventures on YouTube

So I've been doing my internship for a whole month now and you don't always have things to do. And spending a day 8 to 5 in an office with nothing to do could be some kind of torture.

With an interesting blocked websites list, I don't have access to IMDb (which is my number one favorite website to waste time) but fortunately I have access to YouTube.

So I decided to make some video/channel recommendations on YouTube for those of you in need of mindless distraction.

YouTube is of course known to satisfy every kind of taste and not everyone necessarily supposed to like the same content. However, if you are reading this I'm assuming we have similar tastes. I'm also putting an example for my favorite videos on each channel so that you can have a little taste.

 I begin my daily routine with jacksfilms usually. If you are not familiar with the channel, Jack Douglas is this guy who usually makes videos using the comments under his videos as concept. We may call it  the inception of videos.

My favorite thing about jacksfilms is (was) YGS (Your Grammer Sucks) where Jack takes poorly spelled or comments on YouTube and reads them out loud. I know it sound ridiculous when I say it like this but it actually is very funny. Unfortunately for some reason Jack decided to make the 100th episode of YGS the last one but promised to make it epic. How was that episode? I'll tell you if he ever makes it.

Since there hasn't been any YGS videos coming our way for a while, I try to take simple satisfaction from the daily series YIAY (Yesterday I Asked You) which is again a comment based show where Jack asks something everyday and reads his favorite answers the next day. It passes the time so...

If you're a movies fan like me, I have the perfect channel for you. Two channels actually. Screen Junkies and CinemaSins...

My favorite Screen Junkies show is of course the "Honest Trailer". They basically take your favorite movies and edit them into trailers that reviews them in a very funny way. And CinemaSins take those movies and point out every cliche, mistake or anything that bothers them basically in their "Everything Wrong With" series. Both channels also occasionally offers the same format with video games, TV shows or with famous brands.

For those of you have that random sense of humor, you have ExplosmEntertainment that make one of the most random animations you may find on the internet with their epic "Cyanide & Happiness" shorts.

For those list lovers I'm positive that you are already stalking the YouTube channel of BuzzFeed which has many different channels like BuzzFeedVideo, BuzzFeed Yellow, BuzzFeedViolet and so on and so  on.... It's just one of those channels you follow when you don't want to waste too much energy on brain  work.

A channel I like with a similar content is WatchMojo.com, which makes the top 10 lest about... well about everything actually. To be honest I find the content of WatchMojo a bit more satisfying then BuzzFeed list videos. If you compare them yourself, I'm sure that you're going to realize there is much more thought and research goes to the WatchMojo videos.

If you're looking for a channel that is going to make you laugh your ass off, we have Bad Lip Reading. They take movies,music videos, press conferences, everything and dub them with ridiculous stuff and they are very successful with the lip syncing too. Unfortunately new videos come very rarely to the channel.

A YouTube phenomenon I'm sure most of the people who have access to the internet ran into at least once is PewDiePie.

PewDiePie was (yes was) my favorite channel on YouTube for a very long time. I don't remember laughing that hard on anything. Unfortunately what concerns me is that I can't find the same quality and definitely not the same laughs from it anymore. However, the videos he made playing Scribblenauts will remain some of my favorites forever.

A different kind of entertainment is provided from Fine Brothers Entertainment who are famous with their "React" episodes. They also have these sitcom series but they don't peak my interest that much to be honest. But whenever you want to feel like you are 100 years old, you may watch Kids React to Technology.

Yes, this is how I spend roughly about 9 hours a day everyday. So if you have any suggestions for me, I would love to take a look at them.
