Firstly I want to point out, in order to do justice to this
overly popular franchise I have read all of the books and seen both of the
movies that came out so far.
My journey with Divergent didn’t begin for a long time because
of my unexplainable dislike of Shailiene Woodley. I was hearing about it from all but despite my
chronic fangirlness I couldn’t accept being a fan of a franchise that is
represented by the female version of Jaden Smith. (I've seen her interviews, you can't convince me otherwise)
However around the point Insurgent came into the theatres I
gave in to my boredom and saw the Divergent movie. My only plan was to see a
movie a briefly fall in love with Theo James like every other movie-goer but I
unexpectedly liked the main story too. I was also looking for a new book to
read, so I said why not Divergent.
To my surprise, the book was even better and even more
interesting. After finishing the first book roughly in a day I’ve seen
Insurgent and began the second one, finishing that one in two.
I don’t really know how to explain the shock. For the people
who have seen the movie but haven’t read the book –or vice versa- there are two
different stories there. I mean it might be an overstatement saying that they
had nothing to do with each other but they didn’t have anything to do with each
other.
(Now I understand what they mean by 'Defy Reality')
I’ve never been one of those people who said “well, they’ve
failed tell everything in the movie.” or “the book is better”. I know it’s
impossible for the movie to tell every little story in a book; no one would sit
through a 60 hour movie. That is why movies are “adapted” from books. But
seriously, taking out many things aside putting a total different storyline,
killing off characters that play an important role in the rest of the story...
What is that? Why is that?
-Poor Uriah-
As I said before I saw the movie before I read the book
(because I like doing thing backwards) and the entire book I waited for Tris to
get into the Divergence simulation -or whatever that the screenwriter who was having a creativity flow named it-. Guess what? She didn't! Because that's not a thing. I hate the fact that Tris keeps calling Tobias "Four"; Janine gets killed by Tori and Tris tries to protect Janine from her; a lot of people know what is Edith Prior's (the woman in the video) message is including Janine and she want to hide it and she starts killing off the Abnegation because they want to reveal this message!
I don't get it! How can you change this many things? A lot of the things that happen in the book that doesn't happen in the movie has some much effect on the third book. Are you going to rewrite that one too? And why the hell am I this angry about it?
I'm not gonna lie, I liked the movie when I first saw it; but I am not for changing the events when adapting to the movie. The adaptation is so loose it shouldn't say that it's adapted but that it's inspired from the books maybe.
Maybe the reason why I'm this angry is that I really like the books and they are absolutely doing no justice to it. (Except for Four, Theo James does more justice to Four than it actually deserves.)
The thing that worries me most at this point is that changing the backstory this much is going to mess up a lot of the storyline in Allegiant. Since the first part of Allegiant is not going to come out for another 11 months, there is so much time to speculate.
That's why I have prepared a bunch of angry questions:
-First of all you f*cking killed off Uriah, who goes beyond the wall with the lead characters. I know that is not a question but seriously WTF?
-Tris and Tobias (Not Four!) fight a lot. A lot a lot... And it too much effect on the story to be undermined. How is that going to work out in the two-parted last movie?
-There is a serious factualness trouble going around back in the city which is not represented in the movie. Evelyn is not right in her mind people! She arrested Tris and named her a traitor. Where the hell is that?
-Marcus is the person who originally wants to reveal the Edith Prior video, but in the movie he is chilling at Amity. He is supposed to get banished from the city in the third movie. Is he going to get banished for hanging out with farmers?
-Tris doesn't 'die' struggling in the simulation she is 'executed', (still saved by Peter the same way though).
-There is a person called Cara. She is Will's sister and the leader of Allegiant and in the world of the movies she does not exist.
The changes in the movie of course are not limited to these but there is so many that I chose my favourites (or least favourites... depends on how you look at it). The thing is I am full on worried about the next two movies and if I could be replaced as the screenwriter of the franchise I would remake the Insurgent before getting to Allegiant. Unfortunately there's no such option and much for us to do than sit, wait and see what is going to happen next.
If case you have speculations about the next movie or some point that you believe I've missed, let me know by leaving a comment.
As always, thank you for reading my humble opinion.

(One movie can end the book as you know it)
